Select a book relevant to the course that is of personal interest. Although there are other possibilities, many of these
pre-approved book suggestions
are focused on animal intelligence (neuroethology), artificial intelligence (cybernetics), consciousness, language, and neuro-culture. Your book choice for the midterm project may be – but is not required to be – related to your final project.
Please send me an email indicating the book you have selected.
Read your selection over Spring Break and prepare for in-class discussions that will occur during the two weeks following Spring Break.
You have flexibility with regard to the deliverable (see due date on course calendar). The media may be written, video, podcast, whatever would work best and show your creativity. The form and audience may be any one of the following
- A critical review of the book written by you, an apprentice scholar, at the level of your expertise.
- A reader response essay written by you, a neuroscience major, at the level of an educated layperson
- A pedagogical summary written by you, an educational consultant, at the level of a high school student who you are trying to interest in neuroscience.
New Rules!
Now that class is online, I am changing the deliverable. Media: a short form video as, for example, made using Adobe Spark. Audience: Computational Neuroscience students and professor. Here is an example:
